Abstract

New Technical Backgrounder on DSCT.com

posted by DSCT.com editors | May 13, 2009

The introduction of the dual-source technique in 2005 has led to a revival of Dual Energy computed tomography. The configuration of the scanner allows for the simultaneous acquisition of two different energy spectra, thereby resolving the image co-registration problems of previous CT systems.

We are proud to present an introductory technical background section on this website, which provides a concise overview about the basic principles of the dual source technology and Dual Energy CT.

The first article, Dual-Source Technology, covers the clinical challenges in cardiac CT and emergency/acute care and how DSCT overcomes them, as well as how DSCT can often reduce the radiation dose for the patient.

The second article, Dual Energy Imaging, explains the technical background of the Dual Energy system and provides an overview of the added value of Dual Energy CT for the differentiation and characterization of materials and tissues.
